Growing up with aspirations of joining the “family business” of hustling the streets, Dontae now has a mission to Win, Equip, and Send to the Trench those whom God has chosen him to disciple. Although he does not consider himself an artist, Dontae says, “I feel as if I’ve been chosen to provide music that is testimonial to those who wouldn’t normally listen to Christian rap.”
Born Dontae McFarland in 1977, Dontae was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He later moved with his mother and some of his aunts and uncles to San Diegoin 1989. As a teenager, he started selling dope and hustling in the streets with a crew to provide food for his family. Wanting to reconnect with his father, he moved back to St. Louis in 1996. There, he continued in the street life with some family members. Business had become lucrative, but it also led to potential incarceration for up to 25 years. Facing time in a jail cell, Dontae cried out to the Lord. “I had shared with [God] that if He had planned for me to do the time behind my actions, I was willing to do ‘em. But if He’d seen another life fit for me, and if He had other plans for me, than I would mount up and answer my call.” He says he was delivered that day from serving the time—the story he tells in his single, “Delivered”, on his newly released EP, The Assignment.
With over 16 years walking in Christ, today Dontae serves as the Director of the Westsiders Urban Outreach Ministry and is currently in his second year serving at the Rock Church on the Pastoral support team. While serving as a PST, Dontae has been commissioned to conduct funerals, baptisms, and weddings. Truly God has moved upon the life of Dontae – becoming a power house with a unique anointing in the Christian Hip-Hop community. Sharing the stage with multiple highly branded names such as BIZZLE, NO MALICE, SEVEN, FLAME, SOCIAL CLUB, & ACTOR NOEL G just to name a few. With a flow that rides over tracks and live instruments, God has used Dontae to capture audiences all over the country and far across international waters. Dontae has received a number of awards and accolades for his commitment to artistry and community outreach. This ministry is breaking strongholds and being used as a tool in an effort to help build the Kingdom of God.
